SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Joey Anderson (Roseville, Minn.) scored one goal and Joseph Woll (Dardenne Prairie, Mo.) turned away 28 total shots, but the U.S. National Under-17 Team was knocked off by the Sioux City Musketeers, 6-1, here tonight in the first of back-to-back contests at the Tyson Events Center.
Sioux City scored three times in the opening period and carried a 3-0 lead into the first intermission despite Team USA holding the edge in shots on goal, 12-8.
Both teams generated scoring chances in the second stanza, but it was the Musketeers who managed to find the lone tally of the stanza to increase their advantage to 4-0 after 40 minutes.
Anderson got the U.S. on the board 5:26 into the final frame when he found the back of the net from the slot. Patrick Khodorenko (Walnut Creek, Calif.) started the play when he turned and sent a cross-ice pass to Graham McPhee (Bethesda, Md.), who quickly hit Anderson between the circles. Anderson gathered the pass and placed a shot just inside the right post. Sioux City scored twice more in the third to close out the 6-1 victory.
The U.S. National Under-17 Team and Musketeers close out a two-game weekend series tomorrow (March 28) at 8:05 p.m. ET in Sioux City. The game will be streamed live on FASTHockey.com.
