BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Joey Anderson (Roseville, Minn.) scored the lone marker for Team USA as the U.S. National Under-17 Team was defeated by the Bloomington Thunder, 2-1, here tonight at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.

Bloomington opened the scoring at 3:19 of the first frame. The Thunder added a late tally at 17:19 to double its lead, 2-0, after 20 minutes of play. Team USA was held to three shots in the period.

After a scoreless second stanza which saw Michael Lackey (Washington, D.C.) stop all 12 shots he faced, the Under-17 Team sliced the Bloomington lead in half midway through the third.

Anderson lit the lamp for the U.S. while on the power play. Patrick Khodorenko (Walnut Creek, Calif.) and Graham McPhee (Bethesda, Md.) registered assists on the play. Team USA pulled Lackey with 50 seconds remaining in the third period in search of the game-tying goal but the attempt fell short.

Lackey made 23 total saves for the U.S. in the setback.

The U.S. National Under-17 Team continues its road push next weekend in Sioux City, Iowa. The U17s take on the Musketeers March 27-28 at the Tyson Events Center with both contests starting at 8:05 p.m. ET. Games can be seen live online at FASTHockey.com.

Team USA was outshot by Bloomington, 25-20 ... The U.S. and Thunder both went 1-3 with the man advantage ... Patrick Khodorenko extended his USHL point streak to four games. The forward has two goals and three assists in that span ... Graham McPhee has now recorded one assist in three straight contests ... Five of the last six U17 games against USHL opponents have been decided by just one goal ... Before the weekend, the Under-17 Team was 0-3 versus Bloomington in 2014-15. The U18s finished 2-0 against the Thunder this year, thanks to a 4-3 shootout win on Nov. 11 in Ann Arbor and a 6-2 win over Bloomington last weekend on the road.
