BENSENVILLE, Ill. - Jeremy Bracco (Freeport, N.Y.) scored once and added one assist, but the U.S. National Under-18 Team was clipped by the Chicago Steel, 5-4, in overtime here tonight at The Edge Ice Arena.
After the Steel posted three first-period goals, Bracco answered with the lone marker of the middle period to pull Team USA within two scores after 40 minutes. Jordan Greenway (Potsdam, N.Y.) earned the lone assist on Bracco's tally.
The U.S. buried the puck three times in the final period - matching Chicago's third-stanza goal - to force overtime. Matthew Tkachuk (St. Louis, Mo.) cut the Steel lead, 3-2, when he scored with help from Charles McAvoy (Long Beach, N.Y.) and Chad Krys (Ridgefield, Conn.). Chicago scored again to double their lead, but late goals by Clayton Keller (Swansea, Ill.) and Jack Roslovic (Columbus, Ohio) forced overtime. Bracco had the lone helper on Keller's goal, while Roslovic's tally was unassisted.
The Steel scored 81 seconds into the extra session to clinch the victory.
Michael Lackey (Washington, D.C.) started for the U.S. and made five saves before Luke Opilka (St. Louis, Mo.) entered the game and turned aside 21-of-23 shots against.
The U.S. National Under-18 Team visits Lincoln, Nebraska to take on the Stars in a two-game series next weekend (March 20-21). Both games begin at 8:05 p.m. ET at the Lincoln Ice Box and can be seen live at FASTHockey.com.
Team USA outshot Chicago, 38-31 ... The U.S. went 1-7 on the power play while the Steel went 0-3.
