ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Max Jones (Rochester, Mich.) scored one goal but the U.S. National Under-17 Team lost to the Waterloo Black Hawks, 5-1, here tonight at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube. The contest was the lone bout for the Under-17 Team this weekend.
Waterloo hit the back of the net first at 6:37 of the opening period and doubled its advantage less than three minutes following.
Jones struck for Team USA at 11:17 of the second stanza to slice the deficit in half. Clayton Keller (Swansea, Ill.) collected the lone assist on the marker. The Black Hawks regained its two-goal lead at 17:41.
Two late power-play scores in the third period by Waterloo sealed the victory for the Black Hawks.
Joseph Woll (Dardenne Prairie, Mo.) turned aside 26 shots in the setback for the Under-17 Team.
The U.S. National Under-17 Team travels to Fargo, North Dakota next weekend to face the Force in back-to-back games on March 13-14. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. ET both nights at Scheels Arena. FASTHockey.com will provide live coverage of both contests.
The U.S. was outshot the Black Hawks, 31-21 ... Team USA went 0-4 on the power play while Waterloo went 2-7 ... The two meetings this weekend mark the only match ups between the NTDP and Waterloo during the 2014-15 season. The U.S. National Under-18 Team previously bested the Black Hawks, 4-2, on Friday (March 6).
