Trio Teams Up for Three of Four U.S. Goals.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Matthew Tkachuk (St. Louis, Mo.) and Jack Roslovic (Columbus, Ohio) each scored one goal and added two assists as the U.S. National Under-18 Team outlasted the Waterloo Black Hawks, 4-2, here tonight at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube. This was the second-straight USHL game for the U18s having previously defeated the Omaha Lancers at home last night.

Team USA outshot Waterloo 14-3 in the first period but was stymied by Black Hawks netminder Cale Morris.

The Black Hawks struck first at 4:25 of the second stanza. Team USA answered back midway through the frame when Roslovic sent a high wrist shot past Morris. The power-play tally was assisted on by Tkachuk and Charles McAvoy (Long Beach, N.Y.). Less than two minutes later, Auston Matthews (Scottsdale, Ariz.) poked in a feed out front from Tkachuk to notch the U18s second straight power-play goal. Roslovic picked up the secondary assist. With fifteen seconds left, Roslovic dropped the puck behind the net to Matthews who backhanded a pass to Tkachuk streaking through the slot. Tkachuk threaded the puck through a defender and scored on the backhand while falling to the ice. The Under-18 Team entered the third period up 3-1.

Waterloo inched to within one marker 3:35 into the final frame, but the U18s still held the advantage on the scoreboard, 3-2. Christian Fischer (Wayne, Ill.) doubled the U.S. lead, essentially sealing the victory, when he stole the puck off the face-off and netted an unassisted goal out front. Colin White (Hanover, Mass.) registered the helper. The Black Hawks pulled Morris in favor of the extra attacker but the gamble did not pay off.

Michael Lackey (Washington, D.C.) made 27 saves in the win for the Under-18 Team.

The U.S. National Under-18 Team closes out the weekend on Sunday (March 8) versus the Sioux Falls Stampede. Puck drop is slated for 3:30 p.m. ET at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube. An online stream of the game can be found at FASTHockey.com.
