William Lockwood Nets Single Tally for Team USA.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - William Lockwood (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) scored one goal and Jake Oettinger (Lakeville, Minn.) made 28 saves, but the U.S. National Under-17 Team fell to the Sioux Falls Stampede, 2-1, here tonight at Sioux Falls Arena.

The Stampede held Team USA to just two shots and tested Oettinger 13 times in the opening period. The extended pressure resulted in Sioux Falls taking a 1-0 edge into the first intermission after a power-play goal 11:19 into the contest.

Neither team cracked the scoreboard in the middle period despite Team USA generating several quality scoring chances on a late-period power play.

Lockwood found the back of the net 6:37 into the third stanza to knot the score at 1-1. Keeghan Howdeshell (Brighton, Mich.) started the play by chipping the puck to Clayton Keller (Swansea, Ill.) at the side of the net. Keller settled the pass and quickly hit Lockwood all alone in front of the net, where Lockwood redirected the puck just inside the far post and in. Sioux Falls fought back and scored the eventual game-winner at 9:02.

The U.S. National Under-17 Team has a quick turnaround before facing some of the best young players in the North American Hockey League at the NAHL Top Prospects Tournament at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube on Tuesday (Feb. 24). Puck drop is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET and can be seen live on FASTHockey.com.
