OMAHA, Neb. - Adam Fox (Jericho, N.Y.) scored a power-play goal, but the U.S. National Under-17 Team was upended by the Omaha Lancers, 7-1, here tonight at Ralston Arena.
Omaha jumped out to a 5-0 lead by the midway point of the contest - with National Team Development Program alumnus Shane Gersich (Chaska, Minn./2013-14) collecting two assists in the process - before Fox notched a five-on-three goal to make it 5-1 at 17:39 of the second stanza. After Joey Anderson (Roseville, Minn.) and Nick Pastujov (Bradenton, Fla.) worked the puck around the zone, Fox took a pass in the high slot, waited and fired the puck through traffic and into the net.
The Lancers scored two unanswered goals in the final 20:26 of play to close out the 7-1 victory.
Goaltenders Joseph Woll (Dardenne Prairie, Mo.) and Jake Oettinger (Lakeville, Minn.) split time between the pipes for Team USA, with Woll making 21 saves in 50:42 worth of action and Oettinger turning away five of the six shots he faced in 9:18.
The U.S. National Under-17 Team continues its western swing tomorrow (Feb. 21) night versus the Sioux Falls Stampede. Puck drop is slated for 8:05 p.m. ET at Sioux Falls Arena. The game will be streamed live at FASTHockey.com.
