CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Trent Frederic (St. Louis, Mo.) and Chad Krys (Ridgefield, Conn.) each scored one goal but the U.S. National Under-17 Team fell to the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, 4-2, here tonight at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.
Frederic staked the game's first lead for Team USA at 14:06 of the first frame. Adam Fox (Jericho, N.Y.) registered the lone assist on the score. Cedar Rapids struck back at 16:53 on the power play to knot the game, 1-1, heading into the intermission.
The U.S. reclaimed the lead, 2-1, when Krys found the back of the net at 3:51. The power-play marker was assisted on by Clayton Keller (Swansea, Ill.) and Fox. Cedar Rapids responded and tied the game once more at 16:27.
Two third-period goals by the RoughRiders put the game out of reach for the Under-17 Team, who pulled its netminder late in favor of the extra attacker. The gamble did not pay off however and Team USA wound up dropping the 4-2 decision.
Jake Oettinger (Lakeville, Minn.) made the start in net for Team USA and kicked out 25 shots.
The U.S. National Under-17 Team returns to Ann Arbor next weekend to play host to the Chicago Steel on Friday (Jan. 16) and Saturday (Jan. 17). Puck-drop Friday is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET, while the Saturday series finale is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. Both contests are available live via FASTHockey.com.
