Under-17 Team Outlasted by Cedar Rapids, 4-2

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Joey Anderson (Roseville, Minn.) and Patrick Khodorenko (Walnut Creek, Calif.) each scored one goal but the U.S. National Under-17 Team was outlasted by the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, 4-2, here tonight at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena. The two squads will meet in a rematch tomorrow (Jan. 10) night.

Cedar Rapids jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, scoring 1:10 into the opening frame and doubled that advantage midway through the second period while skating short handed.

Khodorenko's tally at 13:37 of the middle stanza cut the RoughRiders lead in half before Cedar Rapids regained its two-goal edge back at 15:28. William Lockwood (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) and Graham McPhee (Bethesda, Md.) collected helpers on the Khodorenko marker.

Team USA once again climbed to within one goal at 4:44 of the third frame off the stick of Anderson. Chad Krys (Ridgefield, Conn.) and Clayton Keller (Swansea, Ill.) assisted on the play. But Cedar Rapids potted its fourth goal at 11:34 to seal the victory over the Under-17 Teams.

Joseph Woll (Dardenne Prairie, Mo.) made 27 saves between the pipes for Team USA in the setback.

The U.S. National Under-17 Team and the RoughRiders close the books on their 2014-15 regular-season series tomorrow (Jan. 10) at 8:05 p.m. ET. The game can be viewed live online at FASTHockey.com.

Cedar Rapids outshot the Under-17 Team, 31-23 … Both Team USA and the RoughRiders went 0-2 with the man advantage … Tonight's game marked the fourth of five meetings between the National Team Development Program and Cedar Rapids this season. The U18s are 1-0-0 against the RoughRiders, while the U17 Team now sports a 0-3-0 record versus Cedar Rapids.
