Joseph Woll Makes 37 Saves in Loss

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Joseph Woll (Dardenne Prairie, Mo.) made 37 saves but the U.S. National Under-17 Team was edged by the Bloomington Thunder, 3-2, here tonight at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.

Team USA opened the scoring at the 6:52 mark in the first period. Keenan Suthers (Macomb, Mich.) broke out of the neutral zone and found a streaking Chad Krys (Ridgefield, Conn.) near side. Pulling up, Krys settled the puck and wristed a shot into the cage. Keeghan Howdeshell (Brighton, Mich.) collected a secondary helper. Less than two minutes later the Thunder responded to knot the game, 1-1.

Trent Frederic (St. Louis, Mo.) buried a one-time shot at 12:13 in the second stanza to give the U.S. a 2-1 edge. Skating with the man advantage, Team USA won the offensive-zone faceoff and worked the puck to the left point. Adam Fox (Jericho, N.Y.) then found Frederic with a cross-ice feed and Frederic notched the go-ahead tally. Ryan Lindgren (Minneapolis, Minn.) also assisted. Bloomington notched its own power-play marker in the closing moments of the frame and added an even-strength goal 20 seconds later to take the 3-2 lead.

Team USA managed to get nine shots on net in an attempt to find the equalizer, but the Thunder's Logan Halladay kept the U.S. at bay and preserved the victory. Woll was pulled in favor of an extra attacker, but the gamble did not pay off.

The U.S. National Under-17 Team will continue its road trip tomorrow the U17s visit Dubuque, Iowa to face the Fighting Saints. Puck drop is slated for 7:05 p.m. EST. The game can be viewed live on FASTHockey.com.
