YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The U.S. National Under-17 Team fell to the Youngstown Phantoms, 12-1, tonight inside the Covelli Centre.
Youngstown was first to strike as it tallied on a breakaway opportunity at 13:06 for the first period's lone goal.
The Phantoms scored two quick goals to open the second, :09 seconds apart, to make it 3-0 at 3:27. Youngstown kept it rolling and made it 4-0 at 3:57 of the middle frame.
Youngstown tallied once more before the halfway point of the second period, at 8:07, to make it 5-0. The Phantoms kept rolling in the second and scored twice more, both on the power play, to make it 7-0 after 40 minutes of play.
The Phantoms made it 10-0 before Team USA broke up Youngstown's Tobias Trejbal's shutout bid off the blade of Finnegan Sears (Medford, Mass.). On the power play, Christian Semetsis (Smithtown, N.Y.) fired a shot on net as Sears picked up the rebound and found twine at 8:06.
Youngstown scored a pair more to account for the 12-1 final.
Eli Winters (Muskegon, Mich.) stopped 35 shots in net.
Team USA closes out its weekend series at Youngstown tomorrow (Jan. 24) with a 6:05 p.m. ET puck drop.
