Sioux City seized control in the second period, scoring three straight goals in the opening 10 minutes to extend its lead to 4-0.
Finnegan Sears (Medford, Mass.) returned to the lineup and got Team USA on the board. A shot from Benjamin Geiger (Northfield, Minn.) missed wide, but the puck bounced off the end boards and landed on Sears’ stick, and he buried the rebound.
The Musketeers answered with a shorthanded goal from Luke Gerry, but just 20 seconds later, Geiger recorded his second assist of the game, sliding a perfect pass to Nolan Fitzhenry (Andover, Minn.) who sniped a one-timer past the Musketeers goaltender for his 15th of the season.
William Tomko got his second of the game for the Musketeers to make it 6-2 heading into the final period.
Sioux City scored two more in the third to make the final score, 8-2.
The U17s are on the road next Friday, Jan. 10 as they travel to face the Dubuque Fighting Saints. Puck drop is set for 8:05 p.m. ET and will be streamed on FloHockeyTV
