VIERUMÄKI, Finland. - Six different players found the back of the net for the U.S. National Under-17 Team as they defeated Finland, 6-2, in the third place game at the Vierumaki Cup.

Finnegan Sears (Medford, Mass.) opened the scoring for Team USA for the second straight game. From the point, Christian Semetsis (Smithtown, N.Y.) sent a shot toward the net through heavy traffic, and Sears was able to get a piece of it to give the U.S. the early lead.

The U.S. continued to control the pace of play and doubled the advantage moments later. Semetsis worked the puck across the ice, snapping a pass onto the stick of Braden Scuderi (Haddon Heights, N.J.). Scuderi made a move to shake the defenseman, opened up a shooting lane and snapped a shot over the Finnish goaltender’s shoulder to make it 2-0.

Team USA kept its foot on the gas as Sears connected with Freddie Schneider (Edina, Minn.) behind the Finnish defense. Schneider carried the puck into the zone and finished the play to extend the lead to three.

Finland answered late in the period, scoring with five minutes remaining to cut the deficit to 3-1 heading into the first intermission.

In the second period, the U.S. continued to control the play, limiting Finland’s opportunities behind steady goaltending from Eli Winters (Muskegon, Mich.). Braden Horton (Souderton, Pa.) added to the lead with his second goal of the tournament, scoring on the power play at 15:43 to give Team USA a 4-1 advantage heading into the final period.

Carter Meyer (Winchester, Mass.) and Alexander Milojevic (Chicago, Ill.) each scored in the third period to cap the goals for the U.S., as Finland found a late tally which sealed a 6-2 victory for Team USA.

Winters started in net and made 15 saves in the win.
