CANTON, N.Y. - A trio of U.S. National Under-18 Team players recorded two points each as Jamie Glance (Stratham, N.H.) led the team with a pair of goals, along with 37 saves from Brady Knowling (Chicago, Ill.), as the U18s earned its first NCAA win of the season, 3-2, over the St. Lawrence Saints tonight inside Appleton Arena.
The Saints tallied the first goal of the game of a redirect at 4:15, however, Glance responded :38 seconds to even things at one a side. Glance skated alongside Victor Plante (Hermantown, Minn.) and Casey Mutryn (Norwell, Mass.) on a 3-on-2 rush. Plante fed it to Mutryn on the wing who quickly made it to Glance with an open net as he pushed it past starting Saint netminder Mason Kucenski.
Team USA took its first lead of the game in the middle frame, the only goal scored in the second period, off the blade of Plante. Lukas Zajic (Plainfield, Ill.) applied a heavy forecheck on the power play as Mutryn intercepted a pass. Mutryn found Plante alone in front of the crease before he finished off his 13th goal of the year.
The Saints nearly evened the game up at two at 14:46 with a scramble in front, but Knowling sprawled out for the glove save.
St. Lawrence, however, made it 2-2 at 7:23 of the third. It wasn't long before Glance netted his sixth goal in five games to retake the lead. At 10:57, Glance kept a blocked JJ Marthaler (Superior, Wis.) shot alive and spun around towards the wing and fired a shot to light the lamp.
After a timeout with under 2:00 to go, the Saints pulled its goalie for one last push but the U.S. held strong to earn its first Kroger College Series win of the season, 3-2.
Knowling started in net for Team USA and earned his third-straight win.
The U18s finish out its road trip tomorrow before its holiday break as it'll face Clarkson, with puck drop set for 2:00 p.m. ET.
