LETHBRIDGE, Alberta - Victor Plante (Hermantown, Minn.) scored the game winner in Super Overtime to lift the U.S. National Under-18 Team to its first CHL-USA Prospects Challenge series winner here tonight against the CHL Prospects inside the VisitLethbridge.com Arena.
The CHL Prospects quickly got on the board, :34 seconds into the period, but AJ Garcia (Romeoville, Ill.) evened things up 4:02 later. Lukas Zajic (Plainfield, Ill.) raced into the offensive zone to retrieve the puck and found Garcia within the faceoff dot who fired it past starting CHL netminder Zachary Jonvanovski.

The tie game was short lived as Plante made it 2-1 at the 6:31 mark of the first. A backhanded pass from the CHL Prospects was intercepted in front of the crease by Logan Stuart (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and fed it behind him to Plante in the slot who fired it past Jonvanovski.
The U.S. made quick work in the second period as Jamie Glance (Stratham, N.H.) converted on a 5-on-3 power play 1:07 in. The team worked it around the zone as Luke Schairer (Charlotte, N.C.) found Glance on the wing who dashed across the faceoff circle and found twine.
Team CHL, however, answered shorthanded :37 seconds later to make it 3-2. The CHL Prospects tallied once more at 16:31 of the period to even things after 40.
Play was physical in the third as neither team found the back of the net until the CHL Prospects did at 16:49 on the power play to take the 4-3 lead to force a "Super Overtime".
To determine a series winner, a 20-minute, 3-on-3 "Super Overtime" period(s) commenced until a goal was scored.
With open ice, there were several chances on both sides but it was Plante who clinched the series at 5:53 of extra time. Sammy Nelson (Maple Grove, Minn.) backhanded a puck towards the blue line as Plante picked it up and worked around a defender. He drifted into the slot and fired one past Jonvanovski to take the Super Overtime and win the 2025 CHL-USA Prospects Challenge series.
Luke Carrithers (Maple Grove, Minn.) started in net for Team USA and stopped 33 shots in regulation.
The U18s are back at USA Hockey Arena Friday, Dec. 5 as it'll host the Lincoln Stars and will wear its community tribute third jersey for the first time this season.
