WEST DES MOINES, Iowa. - Christian Semetsis (Smithtown, N.Y.) tallied his first goal of the season as the U.S. National Under-17 Team fell to the Des Moines Buccaneers on overtime, 2-1, tonight inside the MidAmerican Energy Company RecPlex.

The intensity from the game previous carried over as starting U17 netminder Eli Winters (Muskegon, Mich.) stayed calm in net and turned aside all 12 shots he faced in the first 20. Team USA had a trio of good looks in the opening frame but didn't find twine as the game was scoreless headed into the second period.

Box Score

It wasn't long until Team USA broke through to open the middle frame as Semetsis netted his first of the season 1:57 in. A battle along the boards popped the puck to Finnegan Sears (Medford, Mass.) who backhanded it to Semetsis skating back to the blue line. Semetsis wound up and fired it on net past starting Buccaneer goaltender Max Weilandt for the score.

Des Moines, however, evened things up :52 seconds later for the only pair of goals in the period as it remained tied headed into the third period.

The third period replicated the first with a handful of opportunities from each side but neither team broke the tie as overtime was needed to decide the victor.

Team USA had a pair of shots on goal in the extra frame, but it was the Buccaneers second shot that squeezed through 1:26 in as Team USA fell in overtime, 2-1.

The U17s are back at USA Hockey Arena Friday, Nov. 21 as it'll host the Madison Capitols. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. ET and tickets are available at USAHockeyNTDP.com/tix or by calling the box office at 734-453-8400.
