WEST DES MOINES, Iowa - Jake Boguniecki (Orange, Conn.) made it a one-goal game with 1:43 to play but the U.S. National Under-17 Team comeback bid fell short against the Des Moines Buccaneers and fell, 4-3, tonight inside the MidAmerican Energy Company RecPlex.

Team USA and Hudson Salvador (Warren, N.J.) got on the board first at the 4:09 mark of the first. Christian Semetsis (Smithtown, N.Y.) dumped the puck into the offensive zone as Buccaneers starting netminder Max Weilandt came out to play the puck. The puck bounced in favor of Salvador who was right in front of the crease and fired it into the empty net.

Des Moines got a pair back though to take a 2-1 lead, with its first goal on the power play followed by a 4-on-4 goal with :53 seconds left to go in the period.

It didn't take long for Team USA to get even in the second off Rocco Pelosi's (Sewell, N.J.) second of the year. An initial Diego Gutierrez (Flower Mound, Texas) shot from the blue line was saved, as Pelosi picked it up and wrapped around the net for a goal, 2:18 in.

The Buccaneers, however, answered once again at the 9:15 mark of the middle frame to take a 3-2 lead. Des Moines nearly made things 4-2 while shorthanded, but starting U.S. netminder Nate Chizik (Warrington, Pa.) turned aside a breakaway chance to keep it a one-goal game at 6:10 of the third.

Des Moines eventually made it a two-goal game at 12:43 of the period off its second power play goal of the night.

Team USA didn't count itself out, however, as Chizik left the net with just over 2:00 to go to try and claw back. Boguniecki kept the comeback alive as he wristed a shot from the blue line through traffic and in to make it 4-3 with 1:43 to go.

Despite its best efforts, the Buccaneers turned aside several chances in the final minute as Team USA's comeback fell short, 4-3.

Chizik stopped a total of 39 shots.

The U17s wrap up its road trip in Iowa tomorrow (Oct. 25) as it's set to face the Buccaneers, once again, at 8:05 p.m. ET.
