U18s Defeated by Ferris State, 5-0

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - The U.S. National Under-18 Team fell to the Ferris State University Bulldogs, 5-0, tonight at USA Hockey Arena.

Ferris State nearly tacked on the first goal with a shot in front of the crease, but starting U.S. netminder Luke Carrithers (Maple Grove, Minn.) stretched out for the save. Carrithers continued to turn aside difficult shots as he saw a flurry seconds after the halfway mark. Despite the efforts to keep it scoreless, Ferris State eventually broke through off the ensuing faceoff to make it 1-0 at 10:43.

Highlights

Victor Plante (Hermantown, Minn.) nearly evened things up on the power play at one a piece as his shot near the crease went wide at 13:58. The pressure from Team USA was turned up with the extra man as Dayne Beuker (Portland, Ore.) sent a shot that rang off the pipe but stayed out at 14:33.

Ferris State made it 2-0 at 4:53 in the second as its penalty kill expired and the player who served scored on the breakaway.

Beuker had another good look, this time at 13:00 of the second, as he skated around the Ferris defender but his backhand chance was denied.

The Bulldogs tallied its third goal of the game at 6:08 of the third to make it 3-0. The U18s continued to push though as it attacked on the power play at 9:02 in the third and peppered the Ferris netminder but were turned aside to keep the teams deficit to three.

The Bulldogs tallied its final pair of goals :44 seconds apart, with its first goal at 14:02, and held Team USA scoreless to account for the 5-0 final.

The team returns to the ice next week, on the road, for another pair of Kroger College Series games. The U18s will take on Niagara University Friday (Oct. 24) at 6:00 p.m. ET, followed by a visit to Cornell University Saturday (Oct. 25), with puck drop slated for 7:00 p.m. ET.

The U18s are back at USA Hockey Arena Thursday, Oct. 30, as it'll host the Muskegon Lumberjacks. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. ET as fans can enjoy 'Chiller Thriller Night' as the game will feature drink and food specials. Tickets are available at USAHockeyNTDP.com/tix or by calling the box office at 734-453-8400.
