GREEN BAY, Wis. - Nolan Fitzhenry (Andover, Minn.) netted his fourth of the season but the U.S. National Under-17 Team fell in the third game of the weekend to the Green Bay Gamblers, 5-1.
Off a deflection in front, Green Bay forward Geno Carcone opened the scoring 9:42 into the first period.
Just over a minute later, the Gamblers capitalized on a U17 penalty, as David Rozsival doubled the lead.
Team USA pressed to cut the deficit before the intermission, generating several quality chances. Alexander Milojevic (Chicago, Ill.) broke in alone but couldn’t beat the Green Bay goaltender, while Braden Horton (Souderton, Pa.) had a shorthanded look on a 2-on-1 rush that was turned aside.
In the second, Green Bay capitalized on another power play to extend its lead to 3-0 heading into the final period.
Cody Sokol was able to capitalize on another power-play for Green Bay, making the score 3-0 heading into the third.
NTDP alum Landon Hafale scored in front for the Gamblers 6:14 into the final period to make it 4-0.
The U17s responded quickly as Brayden Willis (Gilbert, Ariz.) gained control in the offensive zone, curled around, and found a cutting Nolan Fitzhenry (Andover, Minn.), who buried his fourth goal of the season.
Green Bay added one more late to close out a 5-1 final.
Eli Winters (Muskegon, Mich.) stopped 21 shots.
The U17s are back at for their home opener at USA Hockey Arena next Friday, Oct.10 as they host the Muskegon Lumberjacks. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. ET and tickets are available at USAHockeyNTDP.com/tix or by calling the box office at 734-453-8400.
