GREEN BAY, Wis. - Nate Chizik (Warrington, Pa.) made 35 saves, but the U.S. National Under-17 Team suffered a tough 2-1 overtime loss to the Green Bay Gamblers Saturday night at the Resch Center.
The opening period was a defensive battle, as both teams traded scoring chances but neither goaltender budged, sending the game into the second scoreless.
Goaltender Nate Chizik turned aside several quality chances, making a series of highlight-reel saves to keep the game tied.
With 3:50 left in the middle frame, Green Bay took a penalty, giving Team USA an opportunity on the power play. From the point, Christian Semetis (Smithtown, N.Y.) fired a shot toward the net that Finnegan Sears (Medford, Mass.) redirected in front, putting the U17s ahead 1-0 heading into the third period.
The defensive battle carried into the final period as both teams looked for the go-ahead goal. With their goalie pulled late in regulation, the Gamblers pressed hard and finally broke through, with Gavin Katz scoring with 0:22 remaining to tie the game and send it to overtime.
In overtime, Green Bay forward William Samuelson capitalized on a deflected puck, scoring the game-winner to hand Team USA a tough 2-1 loss.
