PLYMOUTH, Mich. - The U.S. National Under-18 Team posted a 5-4 come-from-behind overtime win against the Chicago Steel to open up their two-game series on March 21.
The U18s and Steel traded first-period goals. Casey Mutryn (Norwell, Mass.) tallied his 17th goal of the season at the 15:43 mark, beating former NTDP goalie Jack Parsons. Drew Schock (Green Bay, Wis.) and Landon Hafele (Fairbanks, Alaska) picked up the assists on the Mutryn goal. The Steel tied the game at the 18:20 mark on a goal by Cameron Briere.

Chicago scored two quick goals to open the second period to push the Steel to a 3-1 lead. Briere tallied his second goal of the game with a power-play marker, just 2:28 into the period. Then, about 1:30 later, Teddy Mutryn, who is Casey’s older brother, scored on a quick shot for the Steel’s third goal.
USA cut the lead to 3-2 on a rebound goal by Cole McKinney (Lake Forest, Ill), who was right in front of the net, at 7:19. For McKinney, it was his 11th goal in last 13 games. Jack Murtagh (East Greenbush, N.Y.) picked up the helper.
Chicago regained a 2-goal lead, 4-2, at 16:06 as Henry Major beat the USA goaltender on the short side.
A goal by Garrett Lindberg (Moorhead, Minn.) at 6:36 of the third period helped the U18s cut the lead to 4-3. Mutryn won the face-off in the Steel zone, and shuffled the puck to Richard Gallant (Concord, Mass.). Gallant sent the puck to Lindberg, who fired a puck through traffic from the top of the face-off circle for his first goal of the season.
Will Moore (Ithaca, N.Y.) tied the game at 4 with 13 seconds remaining, taking a backhand shot into the back of the net. Mikey Berchild (Minnetonka, Minn.) picked up the lone assist on the play.
Team USA completed the comeback as Mutryn tallied his second goal with 1:55 left in overtime to give the U18s the 5-4 win. Mutryn carried the puck into the zone and put a backhand past the Steel goalie.
Harrison Boettiger (Wheat Ridge, Colo.) finished with 17 saves to earn the win between the pipes.
