PLYMOUTH, Mich. - The U.S. National Under-17 Team dropped a 5-2 decision to the Madison Capitols on Sunday afternoon (March 16) at USA Hockey Arena.
Madison took the early 1-0 on a goal by Aiden Long. Long took a pass from Gavin Uhlenkamp and shot the puck past the USA goalie at the left post at the 6:43 mark. Less than two minutes later, Ryker Lee tallied his 26th goal of the season to give Madison, a 2-0 advantage.

Jamie Glance (Stratham, N.H.) cut the lead to 2-1 with his 12th goal of the season at the 11:01 mark. Glance took a pass from JP Hurlbert (Allen, Texas) and beat the Capitols goalie with a shot from the slot. Logan Stuart (Manhattan Beach, Calif) also picked up an assist on the play.
Madison regained the two-goal advantage with a power-play marker at 13:30. Finn Brink took a pass from Charlie Michaud and put it under the cross bar to give the Capitals a 3-1 lead.
The U18s had an opportunity to pull within one but Glance’s penalty shot was stopped by the Madison goalie Ajay White at 2:59. Instead, Madison opened up a 4-1 advantage as Lee scored his second goal of the game and 27th of the year at 4:58 of the second period, tucking the puck just under the cross bar.
The U17s fought back and pulled within two goals, 4-2, on a goal by Abe Barnett (Wilmette, Ill.), just 19 seconds later. Barnett took a pass from Sam Wathier (Des Moines, Iowa) at the blueline and shot the puck through traffic for his second goal of the season. Andrew O’Neill (Fargo, N.D.) also picked up an assist on the play.
The Capitols answered right back at 7:14 on a goal by Uhlenkamp to extend their lead to 5-2.
Luke Carrithers (Maple Grove, Minn.) made 12 saves while Brady Knowling (Chicago, Ill.) finished with 20 stops.
