PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Luke Carrithers (Maple Grove, Minn.) stopped 23 shots and three different players scored as the U.S. National Under-17 Team posted a 3-2 come-from-behind win over the Omaha Lancers tonight at USA Hockey Arena.
The Lancers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on goals by Tanner Morgan, at the 9:19 mark of the opening stanza and Brian Lonergan, who scored at 15:24 of the first.
The U17s cut the deficit to 2-1 on a goal by Lukas Zajic (Plainfield, Ill.) with three minutes to go in the first period. It was Zajic’s team-leading 20th goal of the season. AJ Garcia (Romeoville, Ill.) and JP Hurlbert (Allen, Texas) picked up the assists on the goal.
Parker Trottier (Edina, Minn.) evened the game at two goals apiece, as he scored from the face-off dot, just 2:16 into the second period for his fourth goal of the year. Dayne Beuker (Portland, Ore) and Logan Lutner (Maple Grove, Minn.) picked up the assists on the goal.
The U17s took a 3-2 lead on a goal by Wyatt Cullen (Morehead, Minn.), his fifth of the year and the eventual game winner, at 14:53 of the middle frame. He picked up the puck in the
slot and fired a shot that beat the Omaha netminder. Beuker picked up his second assist of the game on the goal.
Carrithers' 23 saves earned him his 12th win of the season to lead all NTDP netminders.
The win over the Lancers marked the third USHL win for the U17 team.
