GENEVA, Ill. - Casey Mutryn (Norwell, Mass.) scored his third goal of the weekend and extended his point streak to three consecutive games, but the U.S. National Under-17 Team dropped a 5-2 final to the Chicago Steel tonight inside Fox Valley Ice Arena.
Jamie Glance (Stratham, N.H.) broke the ice 12:26 into the game, tearing into the right cirlce and ripping a wrister over the shoulder of NTDP alum and Chicago netminder Jack Parsons (2022-24). Logan Lutner (Maple Grove, Minn.) got the play started in the defensive zone and fed JP Hurlbert (Allen, Texas) at center ice for the primary.
Chicago found a response with 4:18 left in the period with a Kolin Sisson one-timer right on the doorstep, then Ashton Schultz made 2-1 for the Steel 1:18 into the second with a shot sent stick-side past Luke Carrithers (Maple Grove, Minn.).
Jackson Crowder added a third to the host's tally, accepting a centering pass from NTDP alum Noah Lapointe (2022-24) and firing from the slot with 4:38 left in the period, and an Adam Valentini backhander with 1:17 on the clock made it a 4-1 contest.
Mutryn brought the U.S. within two 3:35 into the final frame, picking up the loose change on a shot by Hurlbert for his 15th goal of the season. Dayne Beuker (Portland, Ore.) also earned an assist on the play.
Valentini got one more with 11:55 on the clock for the 5-2 final.
