MIDDLETON, Wis. - Parker Trottier (Edina, Minn.) and Casey Mutryn (Norwell, Mass.) each netted two goals apieece, but the U.S. National Under-17 Team dropped a 10-4 final to the Madison Capitols tonight inside Bob Suter's Legacy20 Arena.
The Capitols broke the ice with 7:31 left in the opening frame, as Diego Johnson went stick-side past Brady Knowling (Chicago, Ill.) along the goal line, then Jet Kwajah added another 32 seconds into the middle frame on the power play.
Mutryn got the U.S. on the board only 23 seconds later with a one-timer on the rebound off an initial shot from the point by JJ Marthaler (Superior, Wis.). JP Hurlbert (Allen, Texas) also earned an assist, carrying the puck into the zone for Marthaler.
Madison made it a 3-1 game with an Aidan Long score at 6:29, but Trottier brought the U17s back within one on a breakaway chance off a gorgeous 150-foot saucer pass from Luke Schairer (Charlotte, N.C.) just over a minute later.
The Capitols went on to score five unanswered to take an 8-2 lead after 40.
Trottier netted his second of the evening 7:06 into the final stanza, grabbing a loose puck worked free by JP Hurlbert (Allen, Texas) and flying into the zone to beat Ajay White stick side. Abe Barnett (Wilmette, Ill.) also picked up a helper.
Dexter Brooks and Landon MacDonald added one goal each for the Capitols, then Mutryn made for the 10-4 final with 1:07 to play with a quick rebound score off an initial shot from Wyatt Cullen (Moorhead, Minn.)
The U17s are back in action tomorrow as they take on the Chicago Steel from Fox Valley Ice Arena. Puck drop is set for 8:05 p.m. ET and the game can be streamed live on FloHockey.
