ÄNGELHOLM, Sweden - Patrick Quinlan (Kennett Square, Pa.) made 18 saves to pitch his first career shutout and Donny Bracco (Freeport, N.Y.) and Richard Gallant (Concord, Mass.) added two points apiece to lift the U.S. National Under-18 Team to a 4-0 win over Switzerland today in the 2025 February Under-18 Five Nations Tournament.
LJ Mooney (West Mifflin, Pa.) got things rolling late in the opening stanza, grabbing a shot by Donny Bracco (Freeport, N.Y.) that went wide and bouncing the puck off the pad of Swiss goaltender Matia Nico Birchler and into the net from along the goal line. Charlie Trethewey (Woodbine, Md.) picked up an assist as well.
Cole McKinney (Lake Forest, Ill.) doubled the U.S. lead 5:35 into the second with a quick strike from the low slot off a tip from Jack Murtagh (East Greenbush, N.Y.) after he connected with Bracco.
Mikey Berchild (Minnetonka, Minn.) added a third to Team USA's tally less than three minutes later, ripping one top shelf from the high slot. Garrett Lindberg (Moorhead, Minn.) got the play started in the defensive zone and fed Will Moore (Ithaca, N.Y.), who worked it into the zone for Berchild.
Murtagh made the a 4-0 final with 6:26 left in the period, jamming the puck past Nico Birchler after playing tic-tac-toe with Jake Stuart (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) off a dish from Gallant.
With the win, Team USA improves to 1-1-0-1 (W-OTW-OTL-L) in tournament play. McKinney was named the U.S. Player of Game.
