ÄNGELHOLM, Sweden Cole McKinney (Lake Forest, Ill.) found the back of the net with 25 seconds to play in overtime to complete the comeback and give the U.S. National Under-18 Team a 3-2 win over Finland at the U18 Five Nations Thursday afternoon.

On a 4-on-3 man advantage in the overtime period, Will Moore (Ithaca, N.Y.) worked the puck from the point to Jack Murtagh (East Greenbush, N.Y.) at the right circle. He went cross-crease to McKinney, who blasted a one-timer into the back of the net to give Team USA its first win of the international competition.

U.S. netminder Joey Slavick (Westland, Mich.) kept the game at zeros with a tremendous right-pad stop on a Finland shorthanded breakaway attempt just over five minutes into the game.

The Finns struck first, late in the opening period, as Jere Somervuori redirected a puck in front while Finland was on a 5-on-3 advantage. On the ensuing power play, Aapo Vanninen netted another to give Finland a 2-0 lead heading into the first break.

Neither side was able to change the scoresheet in the second period, as Slavick did his part in being the team's best penalty killer on two separate Finland man-up opportunitites.

Murtagh finally put the U18s on the board with a breakaway tally at 5:56 of the third. After an errant Finnish pass, the Boston University commit outraced the defense and used a five-hole finish to cut the deficit in half.

Team USA pulled Slavick with a little more than a minute left and converted with the extra attacker as 72 seconds remained in regulation. From below the goal line, McKinney found LJ Mooney (West Mifflin, Pa.) at the left circle. He threaded a perfect backdoor seed to Moore, stationed on the doorstep for a tap-in to force overtime.

After a late power play was awarded to Team USA, McKinney did damage for his fourth point in two days to secure a U.S. victory.

Slavick finished with 20 saves en route to being named Team USA's Player of the Game.

The U18s get ready for their third game in three days at the U18 Five Nations with a 9:30 a.m. ET puck drop against Switzerland tomorrow. The game will stream live on Svenskhockey.tv from Catena Arena in Sweden.
