ÄNGELHOLM, Sweden Richard Gallant (Concord, Mass.), Cole McKinney (Lake Forest, Ill.) and Jack Murtagh (East Greenbush, N.Y.) had two points apiece, but that accounted for all the offense as the U.S. National Under-18 Team fell to Sweden, 7-2, in Team USA's opening game of the 2025 U18 Five Nations in Ängelholm, Sweden.

The host Swedes got out to a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes thanks to a pair of special-teams scores. First, it was projected first-round pick Anton Frondell who converted while shorthanded at the 6:00 minute mark. Then with just over two minutes to play, Viktor Klingsell tapped in a back-door pass on the power play to make it a two-goal contest.

Frondell collected his second of the evening, another power-play tally for the Swedes, as he one-timed a blast from the top of the right circle at 6:43 of the second.

Theo Stockselius made it four in a row for the home squad as he rifled in a wrister off an odd-man rush with 6:47 to play in the middle frame and Jakob Ihs Wozniak added another on a second-chance opportunity to make it 5-0 after 40 minutes.

Team USA tallied right off the opening draw of the third period as Gallant potted a rebound opportunity off Murtagh's initial shot. McKinney brought the puck into the offensive zone to collect the secondary helper.

After Sweden got one back, the U18s added another off a nifty give-and-go play between McKinney and Gallant, with the latter returning the puck to McKinney for a tap-in score.

Sweden added its third man-up score with 6:13 to play in regulation for the game's 7-2 final.

The U18s return to the ice tomorrow afternoon to take on Finland in their second game of the U18 Five Nations. Puck drop is set for 9:30 a.m. ET and the game can be streamed on Svenskhockey.tv
