PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Dayne Beuker (Portland, Ore.) picked up his 29th point of the season, but the U.S. National Under-17 Team dropped an 8-1 final to the Muskegon Lumberjacks tonight inside USA Hockey Arena.
Muskegon's David Deputy opened scoring with the first shot of the game, driving past the defense and potting one along the goal line. 40 seconds later, Reese Lantz capitalized on a one-timer in front of the net to give the Lumberjacks an early 2-0 lead.
Team USA responded on the power play 5:19 later. Beuker blasted one on net to cause a chaotic rebound. Logan Stuart (Manhattan Beach, Calif) and Jamie Glance (Stratham, N.H.) were able to coral it behind the net and throw it back to Beuker, who put it past Shikhabutdin Gadzhiev for his 12th of the season.
1:37 into the middle frame, Tynan Lawrence found Ivan Ryabkin across the zone, who finished the back-door tally to put the 'Jacks back up by two.
Muskegon tacked on back-to-back goals in the middle of the 2nd period. Chase Stefanek made a play in front at 12:28, then Jack Galanek was fed a long outlet pass, sneaking it behind Carrithers for a 5-1 lead.
Drew Stewart and Ryabkin each added a score for Muskegon at end of the second, then Lawrence made it an 8-1 final 2:22 into the third.
The U17s are back at USA Hockey Arena next Thursday, Jan. 30 as they host the Youngstown Phantoms. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. ET and tickets are available at USAHockeyNTDP.com/tix or by calling the box office at 734-453-8400.
