LINCOLN, Neb. - Lukas Zajic (Plainfield, Ill.) and Jamie Glance (Stratham, N.H.) scored, but the U.S. National Under-17 Team dropped an 8-2 final to the Lincoln Stars tonight from the Ice Box.
The Stars jumped out to a 2-0 lead 5:41 into the contest off tallies from Hunter Anderson and Dashel Oliver.
Zajic got the U.S. on the board 8:45 into the period, accepting a stretch pass from Casey Mutryn (Norwell, Mass.) and ripping a wrister from the right dot to come within one.
Scores by Lincoln's Jack Pechar and Tanner Henricks made it a 4-1 game heading into the second stanza, then goals from Oliver, Aiden Janz and Lefty Markonidis gave the Stars a 7-1 lead after 40.
Sammy Nelson (Maple Grove, Minn.) added a second to Team USA's tally with a one-time dart from atop the left circle off a dish from Tyler Martyniuk (Washington Twp., Mich.) at 5:04. Glance picked up a point with the secondary on the power-play marker.
Ethan Weber brought the final to 8-2 with 2:40 to play.
The two teams squareoff for a rematch tomorrow from the Ice Box to finish out the weekend. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m. ET and the game can be streamed live on FloHockey.
