U17s Drop Friday Action to Steel

Two teams rematch tomorrow night

GENEVA, Ill. Dayne Beuker (Portland, Ore.) and JP Hurlbert (Allen, Texas) each scored and added an assist, but the U.S. National Under-17 Team dropped an 8-3 contest to the Chicago Steel tonight from Fox Valley Ice Arena.

The Steel made it a 1-0 game 12:45 in with a Teddy Mutryn wrister from the left dot, then Ben Yurchuk doubled Chicago's lead 6:12 into the second period off a two-on-one.

Brody George (Johnstown, Pa.) got the U.S. on the board with six minutes left in the period, tipping an initial shot by Beuker past NTDP alum Jack Parsons. Jamie Glance (Stratham, N.H.) earned an assist as well.

Adam Valentini regained the two-goal lead for the Steel 4:28 later, then Hudson Gorski made it a 4-1 game with just two seconds left in the period off a lucky bounce.

Mutryn scored his second of the night with a quick strike on the doorstep 3:59 into the final frame, then NTDP alum Charlie Pardue made it a 6-1 contest 1:54 later.

Beuker added a second to the U.S. tally just shy of the period's halfway mark with a 5-on-3 score off a pass across the zone from Hurlbert. Wyatt Cullen (Moorhead, Minn.) also picked up an assist on the goal.

Owen Tylec and Yurchuk added two more for the Steel before the final buzzer to make it 8-2, then a Hurlbert power-play goal from the right slot with 33 seconds to play made for the 8-3 final.

The two teams are back at Fox Valley Ice Arena tomorrow for a rematch. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m. ET and the game can be streamed live on FloHockey.
