U17s Fall to Madison

Two teams rematch tomorrow night

MIDDLETON, Wis. Victor Plante (Hermantown, Minn.) scored, but the U.S. National Under-17 Team dropped a 12-1 contest to the Madison Capitols here tonight from Bob Suter's Legacy20 Arena.

The Capitols kicked off scoring with a pair of early goals. Ryker Lee broke the ice 18 seconds in, then Charlie Michaud added a second 1:17 later with a wrister from the right wing.

Lee made a 3-0 game with a score from the slot with 9:03 left in the period, then Brendan Tighe added a fourth off a semi-breakway at 15:08.

Finn Brink gave the Capitols a five-goal lead 1:12 into the second off a mishap on a U.S. clearing attempt, and a Lee wrister from the right circle 4:41 later made it a 6-0 contest.

Goals from Aiden Long, Sam Kappell and Mason Moe made it 9-0.

Plante spoiled Madison netminder Ajay White's shutout bid with a goal 6:10 into the final frame, stealing the puck off a Capitols skater's stick in the neutral zone, skating down the left wing and firing.

Lee and Alex Lunski added two more to Madison's tally with a pair of power-play goals, then Ian Scherzer brought the final tally to 12-1.

The two teams rematch tomorrow night from Bob Suter's Legacy20 Arena with puck drop set for 8:05 p.m. ET.
