FOREST, Ontario - AJ Garcia (Romeoville, Ill.) put up two points and three different skaters scored, but the U.S. National Under-17 Team fell in a shootout by a 4-3 count to Canada White in its lone pre-tournament game of the 2024 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge tonight inside Shores Recreation Centre.

JP Hurlbert (Allen, Texas) had a backdoor chance  4:00 into the contest, but Antoine Proulx made the stop. Then Parker Trottier (Edina, Minn.) had a great look on a semi-breakaway minutes later, but again Proulx kept the U.S. off the board.

Dayne Beuker (Portland, Ore.) finally broke through with a power-play goal connecting with 3:19 left in the opening period.

Luke Carrithers (Maple Grove, Minn.) was perfect in net for Team USA through 20, stopping all eight shots he faced.

Jamie Glance (Stratham, N.H.) doubled the U.S. lead off a feed from Garcia, who connected with Brody George (Johnstown, Pa.) 7:45 into the second.

Daxton Rudolph poked one through chaos net-front to get Canada White on the board with 11:03 left in the contest, Keaton Verhoeff tied it minutes later, then a Tynan Lawrence snipe brought the hosts the lead with 2:33 to play.

The U.S. pulled Kaenan Smith (Duluth, Minn.) from net for the extra skater, and Victor Plante (Hermantown, Minn.) scored off an offensive-zone draw win by Casey Mutryn (Norwell, Mass.) with just 34.8 left in regulation to send the game to overtime. Garcia picked up the primary on the tying goal.

Neither team was able to get one in the extra minutes as the game headed to a shootout. Two skaters scored for Canada White to earn them the pre-tournament win.

Carrithers and Smith split time in net, with Carrithers stopping all 16 shots he saw, while Smith had saves 15 on 18 shots.
