CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Kaenan Smith (Duluth, Minn.) made a career-high 37 saves, but the U.S. National Under-17 Team dropped a 3-0 decision to the Dubuque Fighting Saints tonight inside ImOn Ice Arena.
The Fighting Saints lit the lamp 8:36 into the first as Teddy Merrill picked up a backdoor bounce to beat Smith glove-side.
Colin Frank doubled the Saints' lead 3:29 into the middle frame, finishing a two-on-one with Melvin Ekman down low, then Cooper Dennis netted one with 3:26 left on the clock to bring the final count to 3-0.
The two teams face off again tomorrow, with puck drop set for 8:05 p.m. ET and the game can be streamed live on FloHockey.
