NEW HOPE, Minn. - The U.S. National Under-17 Team used five goals from five different skaters to outrace the Minnesota Elite League All-Star Team, 5-4, Sunday morning at New Hope Ice Arena in Minnesota.

Team USA lit the lamp first on a great individual effort from Luke Schairer (Charlotte, N.C.) down the right wing. After an offensive-zone draw win, JP Hurlbert (Allen, Texas) found Sam Wathier (Des Moines, Iowa) at the left point. He went D-to-D to Schairer who inched down the right wing and fired short-side top shelf for an early 1-0 lead.

The All-Stars grabbed a pair before the close of the opening frame to take a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes. Nolan Geerdes got them on the board with a pinpoint top-corner shot near the midway mark of the stanza.

Late in the period, Freddie Schneider got in behind the USA defense and slid a quick shot through the five-hole of Luke Carrithers (Maple Grove, Minn.) to give the Elite League a lead.

The U17s worked the game back to even off a nifty backhand shot from Victor Plante (Hermantown, Minn.). Lukas Zajic (Plainfield, Ill.) centered a feed that got stuck in the slot, but Plante picked it up and potted past the goaltender's stick to make it 2-2 just over five minutes into the second.

The All-Stars regained the margin with 6:47 to play in the second. Carrithers made the initial stop on a breakaway attempt, but Brent Solomon was first to the rebound and converted on a second-chance opportunity.

Brody George (Johnstown, Pa.) once again evened up the score as he ripped a wrister in the top corner while unabated to the netminder. The 3-3 score was set up by a ridiculous long-range saucer pass from Tyler Martyniuk (Washington Twp., Mich.), his first point as a member of the NTDP.

Team USA took the lead for good 3:11 into the final period on a great redirection in front from Jamie Glance (Stratham, N.H.). Martyniuk fed Schairer for the initial attempt, giving both defensemen a multi-point morning and the U17s a 4-3 lead.

Mikey Berchild (Minnetonka, Minn.) found an empty net late in regulation and the All-Stars added one after with the netminder pulled as the game ended in a 5-4 final.

Carrithers finished with a career-high 36 saves as he extended his record to 4-2-0 on the campaign.

The U17s move on to the USHL portion of their schedule as they make their league debut on Friday night, as they travel to Sioux City to take on the Musketeers. Puck drop is set for 8:05 p.m. ET from Tyson Evens Center in Iowa and the game can be streamed live on FloHockey.
