Assist in development and training of elite-level athletes within USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program.

Job Title: ​Assistant Coach

Department:  ​National Team Development Program, located in Plymouth, Mich.

Reports To:  ​Head Coach 

Basic Function:​ Assist in development and training of elite-level athletes within USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program.

This position is a two-year appointment, with availability immediately.

Responsibilities:

• Assist the Coaching staff in providing instruction to athletes regarding the specific skills needed to play the sport and to support player personal development.

• Assist in planning, organizing and running effective, high-tempo practices.

• Contribute to system work, special teams and general skill development.

• Help schedule, plan and run team meetings and events.

• Conduct opponent pre-scouts, including system breakdown and player summaries.  

• Video analysis of opponents and game breakdown.

• Coordinate all video equipment and game day set up.

• Assist in the coordination of team travel.

• Oversee athletes in various settings including locker room, weight room and classroom.

• Assist academic advisor in regulating school attendance, grades, and school policies.

• Assist with direction from coaching staff contact with billet families and curfew calls.

• Travel as required, including with teams and for player evaluation purposes.

• Approximately 55-60 game schedule season. 

• Assist with planning and operation of NTDP annual hockey schools.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.

• 1+ Year of coaching experience is preferred.

• Playing experience at the junior, collegiate or professional level preferred.

• Ability to work with varied constituency, including USA Hockey staff and volunteers. 

• Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. 

• Ability to maintain confidentiality. 

• Experience with Microsoft Office suite.

• Experience with video editing equipment and software, preferably XOS systems.

Salary: This position is a two-year appointment.  USA Hockey benefits are included.
