Plante records four points; Eiserman nets 100th career goal

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Max Plante (Hermantown, Minn.) tied his career high with four points and Jack Parsons (Ithaca, N.Y.) made a season-high 37 saves as the U.S. National Under-18 Team defeated the Sioux Falls Stampede, 8-5, Saturday night at the PREMIER Center.

USA forward Cole Eiserman (Newburyport, Mass.) got the scoring started at 5:53 with his 100th career goal. Plante and James Hagens (Hauppauge, N.Y.) won a puck battle below the goal line and Hagens sent the rubber to a charging Eiserman, who finished top corner to put the U18s on the board.

Twenty-four seconds later, Cole Hutson (Chicago, Ill.) doubled the Team USA advantage after he finished an odd-man rush with a ripper from the slot. Brendan McMorrow (Lakeville, Minn.) and Kamil Bednarik (Chicago, Ill.) helped set up Hutson on the 4-on-2 rush.

With 6:44 to play in the opening frame, Christian Humphreys (Pittsburgh, Pa.) made it three in a row for the visitors. On the power play, Teddy Stiga (Sudbury, Mass.) found Logan Hensler (Woodbury, Minn.) at the point. He fed Humphreys at the left circle for a one-timer, which deflected off a Stampede defender and in for a 3-0 lead.

After Hayden Reid scored his second goal in two nights to open the middle frame, U.S. captain Brodie Ziemer (Hutchinson, Minn.) answered to restore the three-goal lead. Stiga sent him into the offensive zone, where he toe-dragged a defender and put his wrister in the top corner.

Sioux Falls brought it all the way back to even after 40 minutes, connecting for the next three goals of the game. JJ Wiebusch, Beckett Hendrickson and Noah Eyre all recorded goals to square up the agme at four goals apiece.

Team USA went back in front less than five minutes into the third period as Hagens finished his deke with a backhand tap through the five-hole of Sioux Falls netminder Caleb Heil. Plante led the 3-on-1 rush to collect the lone helper on the go-ahead score.

Moments later, Eiserman was on the doorstep for a rebound opportunity to notch his second of the evening. Hagens and Plante recorded assists on the score to give both skaters a three-point night.

Wiebusch brought the Stampede back within a score with his second of the evening, but that's as close as they'd get as Plante and Will Skahan (Woodbury, Minn.) added empty-net tallies for the 8-5 U18 victory.

USA netminder Parsons made a season-high 37 saves to pick up his ninth win of the season in net.

The U18s return home to face off with the Chicago Steel next, Saturday night at USA Hockey Arena. Puck drop is slated for 7:00 p.m. ET and tickets are available at USAHockeyNTDP.com/tix
