PLYMOUTH, Mich. - James Hagens (Hauppauge, N.Y.) netted his 15th goal of the season, but the U.S. National Under-18 Team fell to the Michigan Wolverines, 5-1, Saturday night here at USA Hockey Arena.

The visiting Wolverines notched the game's opening goal, and lone score of the first frame. TJ Hughes and Garrett Schifsky played a little back-and-forth action before Hughes wired a shot in from the left circle for a 1-0 lead.

NTDP alum Dylan Duke picked off a Team USA pass, skated the length of the ice and dumped a quick wrister in the back of the net to double Michigan's lead just 29 seconds into the middle frame.

Michigan commit Christian Humphreys (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was afforded Team USA's best opportunity of the first half of the ballgame, but his quick attempt was thwarted by a sprawling Jake Barczewski, who bowled over on his side to deny the shot near the midway mark of the game.

Ethan Edwards made it three in a row for the Wolverines with 13:34 to play in regulation. From the top of the left circle, he wound up for a slap-shot on  the power play that beat USA netminder Jack Parsons (Ithaca, N.Y.). Less than a minute later, Chase Pletzke used a redirection in the slot to push the Michigan lead to 4-0.

After Michigan added a fifth score, Team USA's Hagnes spoiled the shutout bid with 52 seconds left to play in regulation.

The Under-18 Team returns to USHL action next week as they head to Sioux Falls to play a pair of games against the Stampede. Thursday night's puck drop is set for 8:05 p.m. ET from the PREMIER Center in South Dakota.
