GREEN BAY, Wis. - Charlie Trethewey (Woodbine, Md.) scored the game-winner with 37 seconds left in overtime and Joey Slavick (Westland, Mich.) picked up his first USHL win as the U.S. National Under-17 Team took down the Green Bay Gamblers, 2-1, in overtime tonight inside the Resch Center.

Green Bay struck first as Chris Romaine potted a sniper from the point 5:03 into the game, but the U17s followed up a flurry of excellent chances early in the second.

The Gamblers' best chance of the middle frame came in the final three minutes as Michael DeAngelo came streaking uo the left wing and flipped a backhander on net, but Slavick was equal to the task.

Team USA outshot Green Bay by a 20-19 count after the opening 40.

The Gamblers came out flying to start the third, with a slew of opportunities in a short 30-second window. Slavick native was stellar, keeping the U17s in it.

It was Conrad Fondrk (White Bear Lake, Minn.) who finally broke through, 6:54 into the final stanza. Drew Schock (Green Bay, Wis.) fed the puck to Fondrk along the left wing and Fondrk went top-shelf on the power-play to send the game to overtime.

After a busy overtime, Cullen Potter (Minneapolis, Minn.) won a draw in the U.S. zone and found Fondrk at the goal line. Fondrk carried it up the right wing with Trethewey in stride and slid it across the slot, as his fellow Boston University commit banged home a one-timer for the game-winner.

The U17s play the Gamblers in a rematch tomorrow night from the Resch Center. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m. ET and the game can be streamed live on FloHockeyTV.
