YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Three different players scored for the U.S. National Under-18 Team, but they could not get enough offense in a 5-3 loss to the Youngstown Phantoms Friday night at Covelli Centre. 

The home side responded back with a pair of goals to take a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes. Kuzma Voronin tied the game at 8:05 after a battle in front and Mikey Burchill put the Phantoms ahead with a one-timer from the left circle on the power play a little more than five minutes later. 

Nearing the midway mark of the game, Youngstown found the back of the net with a man advantage once more as Adam Pietila backhanded a second-chance opportunity past Jack Parsons (Ithaca, N.Y.) for a 3-1 lead. 

The Phantoms extended the lead to 4-1 at 3:35 of the third period when Sam Ranallo followed up a 2-on-1 break and banged home the loose puck by Parsons. 

Team USA got one back as Teddy Stiga's (Sudbury, Mass.) quick shot from the right circle surprised goaltender Colin Winn and snuck through the five-hole to make it 4-2. Charlie Pardue (Winnetka, Ill.) made a deft pass from the right-wing boards to set up the score. 

After Miles Gunty added another for Youngstown, Lucas Van Vliet (Livonia, Mich.) brought it back to a two-score game after he fired in off a face-off win from Austin Baker (White Lake, Mich.). 

The U18s pulled Parsons in the final three-plus minutes of regulation and had control of the puck in the offensive zone for the majority, but could not muster another goal in the 5-3 final.

Parsons finished his night with 28 saves.

The two sides will battle again tomorrow night to complete the home-and-home set. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. ET from USA Hockey Arena.
