Under-17s Sweep Elite League All-Stars with 4-3 Overtime Win

Jack Murtagh Wins it in OT; 10 Players Record Points

NEW HOPE, Minn.Jack Murtagh (East Greenbush, N.Y.) scored 6:37 into overtime to lift the U.S. National Under-17 Team to a 4-3 win over the Elite League All-Stars for the team's first weekend sweep of the season on Sunday afternoon afternoon at New Hope Ice Arena.

 

Conrad Fondrk (White Bear Lake, Minn.) kicked off the scoring Team USA. Charlie Trethewey (Woodbine, Md.) sent a cross ice pass to Donny Bracco (Freeport, N.Y.) who found Fondrk in the high slot. A spin move and a quick snap sent the puck over the shoulder of Elite League goaltender Dane Callaway at the 4:09 mark of the opening stanza.

The All-Stars quickly responded just 45 seconds later with a goal from the left circle courtesy of Mason Jenson.

Cole McKinney (Lake Forest, Ill.) restored the one-goal lead with 2:20 to play in the first. Richard Gallant (Concord, Mass.) tipped it to McKinney along the boards and McKinney skated into the slot and sent a wrister past the left pad of Callaway.

Will Horcoff (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) made things 3-1, scoring shorthanded with 2:03 left in the middle frame. Cullen Potter (Minneapolis, Minn.) picked off the puck in the U.S. zone, carried it through center ice and fed it to Horcoff, who slid it shortside past Callaway.

Ashton Schultz added a second for The All-Stars with a tip-in on the doorstep with 8 seconds left in the period, then Brittan Alstead scored off the rush at the 12:31 mark of the third to send the game to overtime.

Will Belle (Minnetonka, Minn.) forced a turnover at the top of the Elite League zone and immediately chipped the puck to Murtagh, who carried it in through three All-Star defenders and beat Callaway from the bottom of the left circle to pick up the U17's second win of the weekend.

Harrison Boettiger (Wheat Ridge, Colo.) backstopped the U.S. for the opening two periods, making 24 saves on 26 shots, while Patrick Quinlan (Kennett Square, Pa.) saw the final 26:37 and finished with 12.

The U17s are back on home soil next weekend for a two game set against the Sioux City Musketeers, with Friday's puck drop set for 7:00 p.m. at USA Hockey Arena. Tickets can be purchased at USAHockeyNTDP.com/tix or by calling the USA Hockey Arena box office at 734-453-8400.
