Max Plante (Hermantown, Minn.) opened scoring, beating Youngstown netminder Colin Winn from the hashmarks with 6:32 to play in the first period.

Christian Humphreys (Pittsburgh, Pa.) doubled the U.S. lead just over two minutes later, tipping home a centering pass from Dakoda Rheaume-Mullen (Northville, Mich.) amid a net front scramble. Cole Eiserman (Newburyport, Mass.) also earned an assist on the play.

Teddy Stiga (Sudbury, Mass.) added a third just 2:06 into the middle frame off a play from James Hagens (Hauppauge, N.Y.) and Plante.

Sam Laurila (Moorhead, Minn.) gave Team USA a 4-0 lead under a minute later, burying a rebound off a shot from Eiserman that bounced off the pad of Winn. Humphreys earned a helper on the goal as well.

Kamil Bednarik (Chicago, Ill.) made things 5-0 just shy of the game’s halfway mark, connecting with Brendan McMorrow (Lakeville, Minn.) on the doorstep, then Austin Baker (White Lake, Mich.) added a sixth 13 seconds later.

Youngstown drew a tripping penalty with 8:12 remaining in the period and defenseman Finn McLaughlin capitalized, finding the back of the net 43 seconds in to the powerplay.

The U.S. headed to a powerplay of its own after Youngstown took a crosschecking penalty and Lucas Van Vliet (Livonia, Mich.) buried a wrister to take a 7-1 lead with just over five minutes to play in the second. Humphreys and Bednarik were credited with helpers.

Plante picked up the lone goal of the final stanza at the 5:48 mark, with Kristian Epperson (Mequon, Wis.) and Hagens earning assists.

Jack Parsons (Ithaca, N.Y.) saw the opening 40 in net, stopping 18 of the 19 shots he faced, while Wesley Jefferson-Swint II (Walled Lake, Mich.) closed out the final 20 and stopped all five shots he faced.

The two teams are back in action tomorrow evening at USA Hockey Arena. Puck drop is set for 6:00 p.m. ET from the Mitchel Kiefer Memorial Rink as the game will be the sixtth annual Play With Purpose charity hockey game to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving.
