Highlights

The rest of the period remained even, as both teams had solid defensive stops from their goaltenders and shots remained even at eight.

Cedar Rapids notched their first goal of the game just two minutes into the second period. Center Martins Lavins found the puck in a scramble in front of the crease and put it into the net.

The second remained scoreless as both teams went to the locker room locked into a defensive battle with no team able to convert off their few scoring chances.

The third period remained tied until the ten minute mark, as Cedar Rapids found the back of the net. Zack Sharp was on the receiving end of an errant pass from Team USA and found himself on a breakaway where he put the Roughriders up front.

Team USA spent the last ten minutes of the period fighting to tie the game. WIth just under two minutes remaining in the period, the U17s pulled Jack Parsons (Cortland, N.Y.) and played with an extra attacker. After getting multiple shots on net in under a minute, Team USA finally found the back of the net.

Hensler took a pass from Cerrato, and his slapshot went past the outstretched glove of the Roughriders goaltender with just under a minute remaining in the game to force overtime.

The overtime period got off to a quick start with both teams trading shots on both ends of the ice. At 1:26 in the overtime period, Martins Lavins snatched a misplaced Team USA pass off the boards and scored on a wrap-around for his second goal of the game to defeat Team USA, 3-2.

Parsons started in net for Team USA and stopped 20 shots.
