Hendrickson and Moore net a pair apiece in final game before holiday break

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Beckett Hendrickson (Blaine, Minn.) and Oliver Moore (Mounds View, Minn.) scored two goals apiece while Gabe Perreault (Hinsdale, Ill.) added three points as the U.S. National Under-18 Team took down the Dubuque Fighting Saints, 8-2, Saturday evening on the road.

After not scoring until the third period in last night's contest, Team USA came out firing quickly in the first as they netted the opening goal at 3:47 of the period. Danny Nelson (Maple Grove, Minn.) dug the puck out of the defensive zone and chipped it up to Will Vote (Arlington, Mass.) for a 2-on-1 break. Vote drew the defender and slid a pass to Hendrickson who fired in for an early 1-0 lead.

Dubuque got the benefit of some puck luck to even the game up midway through the first. Jayden Jubenvill took a wrister from between the hashes that went off a USA defender, off a USA stick and past Michael Chambre (Fort Myers, Fla.) to tie the game.

The U18s regained the lead early in the middle frame after an impressive extended offensive-zone possession. Moore won a battle along the boards to keep the puck in and sent it low to Ryan Fine (Center Moriches, N.Y.). The Harvard commit made a pretty no-look pass to Perreault all alone in front who deked out the goaltender and put a backhand through the five-hole for his 23rd score of the season.

After Dubuque tied the game at twos on the power play, the U.S. retook another lead less than a minute later. Fine made another great pass, leaving the puck for Hendrickson at the left circle. He stepped into a big slap-shot that beat Paxton Geisel far-side over the glove to make it 3-2. Hendrickson's second of the night gave him his first multi-goal effort of the season and third as a member of the NTDP.

Forty seconds later, Moore provided the first two-goal lead of the night for the U18s after he redirected an Austin Burnevik (Blaine, Minn.) shot in front of the net for his 16th score of the season.

Before the close of the second, Moore was sprung into the offensive zone by a Perreault pass and somehow connected with the backhand to give him two scores and the U.S. a 5-2 advantage.

Early into the final period, Team USA turned defense into quick offense as Salvatore Guzzo (Old Tappan, N.J.) finished in alone on a breakaway. Alex Weiermair (San Diego, Calif.) and Charlie Cerrato (Fallston, Md.) assisted on Guzzo's fourth goal in his past three games.

The U.S. added another on the power play as Vote poked home a loose puck after Perreault's initial shot sat loose in the crease to extend the lead to 7-2.

Weiermair fired in from the right circle on a 2-on-1 rush to net his seventh goal of the season midway through the third period for the 8-2 final.

Chambre finished with 22 saves on the night to pick up the win in net for Team USA.

The U18s are off for the holiday break before they pick back up with their Kroger College Series after Christmas. The team hits the ice next with a December 29 contest at the University of Minnesota.
