Team continues Kroger College Series next weekend in New York

BLAINE, Minn. - Despite a two-point night from Austin Burnevik (Blaine, Minn.), the U.S. National Under-18 Team fell to the Bethel Royals by a 4-2 final Saturday evening at Bethel University Arena in Minnesota.

Through 10 games played, the loss was the U18s' first of the season. They return to the ice next weekend as they continue their College Series against RPI and Army.

The two sides played even hockey in the opening period, skating to a 1-1 contest after 20 minutes of play.

Will Smith (Lexington, Mass.) netted for the U18s as he collected his team-leading 19th point of the season. He was set up by Gabe Perreault (Hinsdale, Ill.) and Burnevik.

Bethel scored the lone goal of the middle frame, off the stick of Sam Wilhite to go up 2-1.

Midway through the third period, the Royals extended the lead to 3-1. Michael Savelkoul connected on a short-side chip shot off a nice set-up from Tyler Braccini. Bethel added another score shortly after to stretch the advantage to 4-1.

The U18s fought hard to close the contest and managed a score from Burnevik, but that was all they could muster for the 4-2 final.

The Under-18 Team hits the ice next on Friday evening as they take on RPI. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. ET from Houston Field House in Troy, New York.
