Team returns to USA Hockey Arena Friday night

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The U.S. National Under-18 Team outshot the Youngstown Phantoms, 33-22, but couldn't come up with the win in a 3-2 decision Wednesday morning in Ohio.

After Youngstown's Adam Ingram opened the scoring, Team USA responded with a pair to take a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes. Jimmy Snuggerud (Chaska, Minn.) got the U18s on the board with a greasy rebound goal in front of the net. Cutter Gauthier (Scottsdale, Ariz.) found Logan Cooley (Pittsburgh, Pa.) for the initial shot from the left circle, which was stopped by Jacob Fowler. Snuggerud was first to the rebound and converted on the second chance to even the game at 12:45 of the period.

Box Score

The U18s took the lead off the stick of Charlie Stramel (Rosemount, Minn.) just after a USA power play expired. Seamus Casey (Fort Myers, Fla.) broke through the Phantoms defense and shifted a pass to Gauthier for the first attempt. He collected his own rebound after it was saved and found a cutting Stramel for a one-timer in the slot to take a lead with less than three minutes to play in the opening frame.

Youngstown tied the game on a power-play score from Charlie Lurie near the midway mark of the second. He corralled the puck at the right faceoff circle and fired his wrister between the legs of both defenseman Seamus Powell (Marcellus, N.Y.) and goaltender Dylan Silverstein (Calabasas, Calif.).

Ingram notched his second of the afternoon, another power-play marker, with 4:05 to play in regulation to give Youngstown the win.

The Under-18 Team returns to USA Hockey Arena for a Friday night battle against the Green Bay Gamblers. Puck drop is slated for 7:00 p.m. and tickets can be purchased at USAHockeyNTDP.com/tix or by calling the box office at 734-453-6400 x396.
