CHICAGO, Ill. -- Ryan Fine (Center Moriches, N.Y.) was the hero late in the game for Team USA as they claimed the shootout victory over the Chicago Steel on Saturday night.

Gabe Perreault (Hinsdale, Ill.) scored the lone goal in the opening frame to make the game 1-1 after a goal by Chicago’s Perron. The Illinois native scored from the top of the circle, completing the give-and-go with Oliver Moore (Mounds View, Minn.), who took the puck the length of the ice before dropping it off back to Perreault.

Despite an early 4-on-4 in the second, neither team was able to score early in the period. Jackson Blake ended the scoreless period when he put one past Michael Chambre (Fort Myers, Fla.) with 8 minutes remaining in the second, making it a 2-1 game.

Box Score

The Steel had 3 power play opportunities, going 0-for-3 and leaving the door open for Team USA with less than 10 minutes remaining in the third period.

Both teams bent but neither broke until Gracyn Sawchyn (Chaska, Minn.) collected the puck off a Steel turnover and fed it to Fine, who scored to tie the game at 2 just before the end of regulation.

Chambre stopped all three shots he faced in overtime to send the game to a shootout. Zeev Buium (San Diego, Calif.) and Will Smith (Lexington, Mass.) were both successful, while Chicago was unable to score past Chambre, sealing a 3-2 victory for Team USA.

The U17s continue the series against the Steel again tomorrow, February 20 for the final contest between the two teams. Puck drop is slated for 4 p.m. ET and can be streamed live on HockeyTV.
