YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Goals from four different skaters helped lead the U.S. National Under-17 Team to a 4-2 victory over the Youngstown Phantoms Saturday night at Covelli Centre.

The Phantoms took an early 1-0 lead when Jaden Grant won the faceoff from the left side for a clear shot by Kyle Bettens in the center slot for the go ahead.

The U17s found themselves with an offensive advantage, controlling the puck for over a minute of play. While on the attack, Charlie Stramel (Rosemount, Minn.) ripped back-to-back attempts at the Phantoms netminder Kyle Chauvette, applying pressure to the defense.

Box Score

With 9:45 off the clock, Team USA tied the game as Alex Weiermair (Los Angeles, Calif.) forced a turnover in the slot before beating Chauvette on the right side for a backhanded goal.

First period scoring did not stop there as the Under-17 team took the lead, 2-1, with 2:38 remaining. Beckett Hendrickson (Minnetonka, Minn.) collected the puck along the boards, carrying it behind the net where he made a centering pass for Salvatore Guzzo (Old Tappan, N.J.) who buried it in the net.

Team USA, with a two-man advantage, added a third unanswered goal to their run to start the second period. Aram Minnetian (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) picked up the deflected puck near the boards and found Austin Burnevik (Blaine, Minn.) at the point. With a few strides, Burnevik scored with a shot right down the middle.

At the 9:47 marker, Hendrickson extended the U17s lead, 4-1, after tipping the puck away from the Phantoms at the top of the defensive zone for a shorthanded-breakaway goal and his seventh of the season.

With minimal opportunities from both teams early in the final frame, the Phantoms notched their second goal of the night with 6:36 played. Trey Taylor fired a shot from just outside the faceoff circle for a tap in by Carlie Lurie, making it 4-2.

Despite the lone third period goal by Youngstown, Team USA was victorious in claiming the road win. Trey Augustine (South Lyon, Mich.) went the distance in net, making 27 saves, to pick up his sixth win of the season

Team USA will close out their weekend in Youngstown tomorrow (Jan. 29) with puck drop set for 4:00 p.m. ET. The game can be streamed live on HockeyTV.
