BLAINE, Minn. -- The U.S. National Under-17 Team closed out the 2021 NAHL Showcase with a 2-1 win over the Janesville Jets at the Super Rink on Saturday night

Box Score

Both teams were unable to get on the board in the opening frame. Team USA had many chances to capitalize beginning with a full ice push from Will Smith (Lexington, Mass.) on an early power play opportunity. Austin Burnevik (Blaine, Minn.) lead the way with three shots on goal in the period including a close range shot from the center.

Team USA opened up scoring :51 seconds into the second period. Oliver Moore (Mounds View, Minn.) intercepted the puck from within the defensive zone before finding Will Vote (Arlington, Mass.) along the boards. On a give-and-go, Vote feed the puck back to Moore whose shot from the glove side of the Jets’ netminder Michael D’Orazio (Beaconsfield, Que.) snuck into the net.

Just over a minute later, Janesville tied the game, 1-1, on a goal by Robby Newton (Milwaukee, Wis.) from in front of the crease. Newton was assisted by Cy LeClerc (Brentwood, N.H.) and Cal Mell (Cumming, Ga.) off some quick feeds up center ice and into their offensive zone.

Another early period goal gave Team USA back the advantage, 2-1, over the Jets. Gabe Perreault (Hinsdale, Ill.) collected the loose puck from behind the net before getting caught up between two Janesville defensemen. Perreault, with the backhand pass, set-up Burnevik’s for a one-timer just left of the goaltender.

The final minutes of the third period saw back and forth play between the two teams. As Team USA secured their 2-1 victory over the Jets, Michael Chambre (Fort Myers, Fla.) finished with 20 saves through two periods while Trey Augustine (South Lyon, Mich.) tallied 13 saves in the final frame.

The U17s are back on the road next week for a pair of games against the Shreveport Mudbugs on Friday, Sept. 24-25. Both games are scheduled for puck drop at 7:00 p.m. ET.
