USHL Season Comes to Close in Youngstown

U17s fall 3-1 in final contest of the year

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Team USA's 2020-21 campaign in the USHL came to a close Saturday night at the Covelli Centre as the U.S. National Under-17 Team fell, 3-1, to the Youngstown Phantoms. 

Team USA finishes the season 22-24-4-4 in 54 contests to place fifth in the USHL's Eastern Conference. 

The U17s outshot Youngstown, 9-7, in the first period but the Phantoms jumped out to a quick lead early in the frame and added a second tally at the 13:29 mark to take a 2-0 lead into the first break.

The Phantoms scored early once again  in the middle frame, converting 33 seconds in to stretch the lead to 3-0. 

The U.S. outshot Youngstown, 23-6, in the final period and Jimmy Snuggerud (Chaska, Minn.) managed to score at the 13:32 mark to cut the lead to 3-1, but Youngstown goaltender Mattias Scholl stayed solid in the net, stopping 22 shots to keep a victory out of Team USA's reach. 

Tyler Muszelik (Long Valley, N.J.) stopped 21 of 24 shots in goal for the U.S.
